Spinal Cord Injury Biomechanics Co-op

September 2021 - December 2021

This research experience was part of my undergraduate co-op. My research focused on finite element models of spinal cord injury, investigating the contact interactions between an external impactor and dura mater. The simulations demonstrate that contact interaction between the dura and the impactor significantly affects the biomechanical outcomes of a unilateral contusion model. Specific configurations of the contact interactions show no simulated penetration between the cord and the impactor. The work from this research co-op resulted in an oral presentation at the World Congress of Biomechanics 2022 in Taipei. The image below shows my Certificate of Attendance to the event.
