Undergraduate Capstone
CoLink - Smart Manufacturing Station
January 2022 - August 2022
My undergraduate capstone project was composed of fellow senior Mechatronic Systems Engineering students, where our team was tasked with creating an automation manufacturing station with Dr. Amr Marzouk. We were given a station to build, often used to teach mechanical handling techniques. However, my capstone team proposed we retrofit and implement features that would bring it into Industry 4.0 by developing a digital twin and material tracking using computer vision. I was the lead for both digital twin and computer vision. I created the computer vision dataset and trained the computer vision model to detect different components of the manufacturing station. Additional safety features were implemented in the manufacturing station that was not possible before without adding other sensors. I also created a digital twin of the manufacturing station to emulate the physical state of the station accurately. Commands are also sent from the digital twin establishing two-way communication between the digital-physical realms.
Most importantly, I could not have been prouder of my capstone team. We accomplished what we set out to do through our hard work and dedication. I wish all of them the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Here is a short demo video that I was tasked with making and filming to promote our capstone project during a showcase.
